Teeth Cleanings
Visiting the dentist for a teeth cleaning every 6 months is the standard to swear by. Regular cleanings with our Ann Arbor, MI, dentists provide an opportunity to check in and possibly detect any issues early on.
However, we understand that even going in for teeth cleaning can be an intimidating experience for many. It’s natural to be weary of the entire process but at Excel Dental, we pride ourselves on our gentle approach.
Whether it’s been years since your last cleaning or you just came in a few months ago, our non-judgmental doctors will care for your teeth in the best way possible.
What to Expect at Your Next Teeth Cleaning
A teeth cleaning is generally straightforward and painless. The main objective is to conduct a dental examination while working to thoroughly clean your teeth.
You can expect our friendly dental hygienists to do a few things during your teeth cleaning so that you can leave with your teeth feeling refreshed. Once you are comfortable in the examination chair, we will:
- Remove plaque and tartar from around your gum line and in between teeth.
- Polish your teeth with a high-powered electric brush to get rid of any stains and leftover tartar.
- Gently floss to get deep between your teeth and locate any spots where you may bleed at the gums.
- Apply fluoride treatment for children and teens.
During the cleaning, our hygienist will use a series of tools designed to help aid the cleaning process. Though some make more noise than others, there is nothing to be afraid of.
It is not uncommon for X-rays to be done at least once a year during your teeth cleaning. The use of X-rays helps our hygienists, as well as doctors, detect any arising oral health issues and create a treatment plan before they worsen.
