Teeth Whitening
Are your teeth faded or discolored? Fortunately, our Ann Arbor, MI, cosmetic dentists can fix stains caused by drinking coffee, eating certain foods, or using tobacco products in the past. The entire teeth whitening process is done in a safe and effective way that ensures fast results you’ll not only love to have, but love to show off.
Whitening Methods We Use
At Excel Dental, our cosmetic dentists offer two primary options for teeth whitening. Each method has its own set of advantages and will give noticeable results at the end of treatment.
The two methods our dentists use are:
- In-Office Whitening: This is the fastest technique as our dentists utilize the most powerful whitening solutions available. Your gums and tooth-root surfaces will be covered with a protective barrier and a thin, plastic device will be used to hold your lips and cheeks away. A professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel will then be applied and left on for an hour.
- Take-Home Whitening: Also effective, this method allows you to play a greater role in ensuring results for yourself over several weeks. A mold of your teeth will be made and two thin plastic mouth trays will be custom created. You will need to fill the trays with whitening gel and position them over your teeth. The trays will need to stay in place for about an hour at a time.
Tips for Maintaining a White Smile
After your teeth have been whitened, you will need to take extra precautions to maintain their color. The length of results will vary and can last for multiple years if proper oral hygiene habits are practiced.
Keeping up with regular brushing and flossing as well as 6 month dental check ups will help prolong whitening results. If possible, you should avoid smoking and food and beverages (red wine, coffee, and tea) that stain.
